Rebuilding Nursing Skills

Thanks to the generous support of Fotorelief we raised approx $50,000 for Haiti. This means that we can continue our support and really make a long term difference. Our target is to improve children’s health and we are doing this by helping the Haitian nurses improve their pediatric and neonatal skills. We sent our first medical team five days after the earthquake and have sent 8 teams of pediatric nurses since then. We have been working with Haitian partners to develop a neo-natal and pediatric nurse education program that will start in the fall 2010.

The State University School of Nursing was destroyed by the earthquake, killing 74 students. We have helped the surviving nurses get trauma counseling and we are collecting the textbooks and supplies needed to re-equip the school.
